“Okay, let’s start
the interview. For the first question. Where is your hometown?”
|
Meliani :
|
“My hometown is in
Malakke, South Sulawesi.”
|
Jemmy :
|
“Wow, so it's far
away from here. Before you moved here, how long have you stayed there?”
|
Meliani :
|
“Well, its been a
long time actually. I had lived there since I was born until I was 2 years
old, then my parents brought me to Jakarta.”
|
Jemmy :
|
“When was the last
time did you visit there?”
|
Meliani :
|
“Hmm.. it was about
|
Jemmy :
|
“Haha, it's been a
long time i think. Could you tell me how is the atmosphere there?”
|
Meliani :
|
“The atmosphere is
very different with the atmoshpere of city or Jakarta. It is still pure from
pollution. If you look around, there are so many big trees. There are farms,
like cocoas, and paddy fields. In the morning, if you wake up, you get the
air is so cool. And people around there is very friendly, warm even if it is
to the foreigner.”
|
Jemmy :
|
“Wow! It must be very
comfortable to live in there.”
|
Meliani :
|
“Yeah, once i get
there, i feel that i dont wanna go back to Jakarta.”
|
Jemmy :
|
“And then, what are the
tourist destinations in there?”
|
Meliani :
|
“Actually, there isn’t
any tourist destination in Malakke. What you got if you go there is the nice
view of village, and the knowledge about their custom. But, if you go to
South Sulawesi, there are so many beautiful beach around there, for example
Pantai Losari. And because I go to my hometown once in 7 years, i dont really
know about their tourist destination.”
|
Jemmy :
|
“Well, i think it's
acceptable for your situation. How about the traditional or popular food in
there?”
|
Meliani :
|
“Hmmm.. if you asks
me about food, maybe i can help you a bit.”
|
Jemmy :
|
“Good. Tell me
please.”
|
Meliani :
|
“There are so many
traditional food in there. There are Jalangkote, Burassa, Coto Makassar, Sop
Konro, Pisang Epe and Palu Butung. Ok, i want to give you the description about
that foods. First, Jalangkote. It is like Pastel in here. The difference is
the crust is thinner than Pastel. Then, Burassa is something like Lontong
maybe. But it is so delicious, because it made with coconut milk. And it must
to be there when Eid, as a substitute of Ketupat. Then, Coto Makasar. It made
with meat. It is so delicious that I cant make any description. Palu Butung
or in here its called Es Pisang Ijo. Maybe you know how the description.”
|
Jemmy :
|
“Which one is your
favorite?”
|
Meliani :
|
“My favourite is Coto
Makasar and Burassa because my mother sometimes make it for my family”
|
Jemmy :
|
“Actually i've tried
Coto Makassar & Es Pisang Ijo. And i think Es Pisang Ijo is so freshening
and delicious. I think i want to try the others someday. Could you tell me
about the culture too?”
|
Meliani :
|
“There are few
cultures that i know. In my hometown, mutual cooperation still exist. Like i
said before, people around there is so warmly. They would help each other.
When there is someone who want build a house, its like the entire people
would help him to build the house without receiving a payment. They would
gladly to help each other. While the man doing the construction, the women
prepared the food, the snacks like pastries, or even the big meal like lunch,
etc. Because I used to come a wedding invitation when I was there, i know a
little thing about the tradition. So, the futur bride or groom, before they
get married, each of them (in each home) should "khatam Al-Quran"
before they really get married. Then the day before they doing marriage,
there is an event that the bride or groom was doing "penghataman
Al-Quran" which is done by someone like ustadz maybe. That event, I can
call it something like a party (but of course not like a party in cities)
because people gather around there by their nice clothes that is usually used
when there is a wedding invitation, and of course there is plenty of food
that usually made in the day of wedding. It was the culture that I had seen
when I was in my hometown.”
|
Jemmy :
|
“Wow, people there
really have nice culture. Not like in The Cities where the people usually so
individual. Okay, for the last question. What makes you miss your hometown
the most?”
|
Meliani :
|
“What make me miss
my hometown are the tranquil atmosphere that you couldnt find in any city;
beautiful scenery where a lot of big trees stand, and the extend of paddy
fields where you can see farmers with their buffalo; and the important thing
is a warm laugh of my big family when we gather in one room and talk to each
other to share our stories respectively.”
|
Jemmy :
|
“That's beautiful, i
wish you'll feel those moments again soon. Okay, thank you very much for
being my informant. It was fun to interview you. See you again.”
|
Meliani :
|
“Yeah, you're
